48" x 36"
oil crayon, ink, acrylic and graphite, pasted paper on canvas
1978 (Newport) explores materials and time travel.
In exploring I was really trying new things with old materials. The Newport logo in shimmering oil crayon. Paper is layered and ripped as if it's on the street. A naval ceremony happens at top. Markers on paper and washed-out watery acrylic. The guitarist shreds below as an LA Rams player from the 70s appears.
This is where the time traveling begins. 1978 has that Newport Menthol icy cold feel. It harkens back to another day, when a Coke can was simple. Please enjoy the film Heaven Can Wait to dive deeper into the piece. A 1978 American fantasy-comedy film co-directed by Warren Beatty.
